Assistant Cook

Job Summary:
The Assistant Cook will be responsible to provide students and staff with a nutritional, eye-appealing meal while ensuring a clean, sanitary, and safe working environment according to HACCP regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist the cook in preparing all items according to standardized recipes; complete calculations of recipes to assure desired yield and quality.
- Apply principles of safe and sanitary food handling, preparation and storage.
- Assist in completing paperwork to include what inventory was used.
- Monitor serving lines to ensure enough menu items are in warmers and refrigerators.
- Put away timely and properly store materials when deliveries arrive.
- Prepare materials for the following day including removing inventory from the freezer and storeroom.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Food Services.
Education & Experience:
- One (1) year experience in baking and/or food service operations desired.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Knowledge in the food service industry with an understanding of nutrition, sanitation, and food safety required.
- Safe Serve Certification required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to reach above and below the waist.
- Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects.
- Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
- Ability to bend, twist and kneel.
- Ability to lift/carry supplies weighing 30 lbs. or more.
- Ability to stand or walk for an extended period of time.
- Occasional kneeling, crouching and squatting
- Occasional reaching and stretching
- Occasional pulling, pushing
Level of Compensation:
This position's salary is determined by the collective bargaining plan for Support Staff Employees. The starting salary for this position is $19.89/hour. After the completion of the 90-day probationary period, this position is eligible for a raise to bring the salary to $20.39/hour. This is a full-time, 10-month position.
