This is a one year, long-term substitute position for a Health & P.E. Teacher.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Health & Wellness Teacher at the elementary school (K-8) level is responsible for planning and implementing health and physical education activities, monitoring students, and evaluating student outcomes. Wellness in the elementary school generally emphasizes sports-related skills, movement patterns, games, and fitness activities. The Health & Wellness Teacher records and maintains student information. They are responsible for communicating with all parties involved in the education of the student. This is a 10-month position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Work collaboratively with co-teachers, coaches, staff and administration to plan and deliver an educational Health & Wellness program in line with the mission, vision, and values of the Southeast Delco School District.
- Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports, utilizing curriculum designated PDE and other appropriate learning activities.
- Promotes standards in safe, healthy physical activities such as good sportsmanship.
- Provides motor skill development in sports activities.
- Facilitate the instruction of accurate, empowering health and wellness information.
- Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
- Maintains control of storage and use of school property. Manage the Physical Education materials, ensuring adequate supplies and safe, working conditions of materials.
- Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Supervise and support students’ social and emotional learning through sport and play.
- Support the building of a student play culture that values inclusivity, sportsmanship, and kindness.
- Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and/or Health and Wellness or related field is required.
- Master’s degree in Physical Education and/or Health and Wellness or related field is preferred.
- You MUST either hold an active PA PK-12 Health & Physical Education certification OR be on a confirmed pathway to certification.

- Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check, FBI fingerprinting Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
- Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release (ACT 168)
- School Personnel Health Record and TB test
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to reach above and below the waist
- Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
- Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
- Considerable bending and twisting of the body required
- Some stooping and squatting required
- Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time of the workday

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Inside: 75%
- Outside: 25 %
- Seasonal, exposed to weather conditions when teaching outside of the school building.

- Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all administrators, the Board of School Directors, parents, students, professional staff, support staff and the community.

Level of Compensation: Dependent on Step and Track placement as determined based on collective bargaining agreements
