Principal
Darby Township School (Grades 1-8)
Job Summary:
The Principal is responsible for the entire management and leadership of the grades 1 to 8 school. This position will perform the administrative functions specified by school law, board policy, and directives set by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents. The duties shall include maintaining a safe and positive school climate for learning to be conducted for students, teachers, support staff, and volunteers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and support for the educational programs approved for the school.
- Supervise the activities of school professional and non-professional staff members in the performance of their duties. Provide direction and monitor the volunteers.
- Supervise the instructional staff in development and implementation of curriculum and student activities.
- Prepare and submit local, state and federal reports.
- Implement programs for public relations in order to further the community’s understanding and support of the educational program.
- Design, create and implement the fiscal budget for the grades 1 to 8 school.
- Develop an effective and efficient schedule and supervise the preparation of pupil and teacher schedules.
- Participate in school programs as they relate to the needs of the school or district.
- Reflect the positive image of an educational leader for the community and the school district, and is an advocate with the community and other organizations.
- Monitor and provide guidance in the areas of curriculum design and development, so that new standards can be achieved and maintained.
- Maintain accountability to all faculty, support staff and students.
- Encourage faculty to continue professional development and leadership within the school district.
- Implement Board policies and administrative rules and regulations relating to the school’s function of operation, as directed.
- Supervise and evaluate professional and support staff through conducting classroom observation and evaluations. Provide supervision for and mentor the Assistant Principals.
- Address issues on student placements and programs for at-risk students. Serve as LEA representative in IEP meetings and special education placement meetings. Work with the school psychologist and Director of Special Education on IDEA regulations.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Education with five years of experience teaching, and three to five years of experience serving as a building administrator.
- Valid Pennsylvania Certification Principal K-12
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and board of directors.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and apply mathematical operations to tasks.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
- Proficiency in the use of personal computer technology and be able to operate a variety of office equipment including a telephone, copy machine, fax machine, calculator.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all administrators and the management team, the Board of School Directors, parents, students, professional staff and the community.
- Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code, Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code), FBI Criminal History Record, Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Terms of Employment:
- 12 months, 261 days.
- Salary and benefits in accordance to the Act 93 agreement with the Board of School Directors.
