School Security Officer- **12 MONTH POSITION**
There is one night-shift security officer position open. The hours are 2-10pm Monday thru Friday.
Job Summary:
Ensure the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and the building and grounds of the District by enforcing school rules in addition to supporting the school police officers with investigations and maintaining order.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct patrols of the building and grounds of the assigned school to prevent and discourage disruptive acts such as loitering and to ensure compliance with school policy, regulations, and local laws.
- Conduct checks of parking areas, entrances to the buildings, restrooms, cafeteria, and remote areas of the buildings.
- Monitor visitors on school premises and ensure that such persons report to the school office and checks to see that the visitor has left the buildings or grounds.
- Confer with students regarding improper behavior and attempts to obtain voluntary compliance with school standards.
- Ensure that students report to their assigned instructional areas; directs students to classrooms, counselor, or assigned area.
- Confer with appropriate staff regarding specific incidents.
- Monitor security cameras located throughout the building and review tapes to identify students involved in incidents.
- Maintain records of contacts, activities, and complete required reports.
- Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, and other calls needing service.
- Report to the Director of Safety or the building principal regarding building conditions or practices that interfere with the maintenance of building safety and security, or the welfare and safety of students.
- Keep the building principal informed regarding all school safety and security-related matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety or building principal.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent necessary, a college degree is preferred.
- Must be professional, dependable, and team oriented.
- At least one year experience in security or law enforcement required. Two to three years’ experience in security or law enforcement is preferred.
Pre-employment Paperwork Requirements:
- Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check, FBI fingerprinting Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
- Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release (ACT 168)
Physical Demands:
- Ability to reach above and below the waist.
- Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects.
- Some stooping, kneeling, bending, and twisting of the body required.
- Ability to lift and/or carry supplies weighing no more than 50 lbs.
- Ability to mostly walk with some sitting and standing or moving throughout the work environment.
- Ability to provide safe physical management (restrain) of students when necessary.
Temperament:
Must possess excellent people skills. Able to make judgments and work in situations that may be stressful.
Specific Skills:
- Ability to use/operate school district equipment when necessary.
- Ability to operate safety equipment such as two-way radios, metal detectors, exc.
Compensation:
This position's salary is determined by the collective bargaining plan for School Police and Security Employees. The starting salary for this position is $20.10/hour. After the completion of the 90-day probationary period, this position is eligible for a raise to bring the salary to $20.65/hour. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
